Store spare daytime solar for evening cooling.

AC + Solar + Battery

Solar can serve daytime cooling first, while a battery stores part of any surplus for later. The right battery size depends on evening cooling hours, other home loads, the solar array and the usable battery capacity.

Why this bundle works

A battery can shift part of any afternoon solar surplus into later cooling hours. The useful duration depends on usable capacity, AC demand, other household loads and how much surplus the array actually produced.

Questions, answered

How big a battery do I need for AC?

Start with the air conditioner's measured or rated draw, the hours you expect to run it and other evening loads. A 5 kWh battery cannot deliver all 5 kWh after reserve settings and conversion losses, so an installer should model usable capacity rather than nameplate capacity alone.
