Can solar panels really run an air conditioner?
Yes. A modern inverter split AC draws roughly 0.8 to 1.5 kW while a 3 kWp solar array can produce 2 to 2.5 kW on a sunny summer afternoon, comfortably covering the load while the sun is up. That is exactly when you want cooling.
What does the bundle cost?
A 1 to 2 unit wall-split AC install plus a 3 to 4 kWp solar system typically starts around £5,900 before any grant. Grants can remove £1,500 to £7,500 from that figure depending on eligibility.
Do I need a battery?
Not to make cooling work during the day. A battery lets you shift spare solar into the evening, but for daytime summer cooling the panels alone cover most of the running cost.
